Nottingham is most famous for Robin Hood, the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and the outrageously good looking Maid Marion (all based on true story). It was the home of lace-making in the UK and is the 7th largest economy within the UK, famous for its transport system. It is a renown sports centre and in October 2015 it received the honourable accolade as the 'Home of English Sport'. This is probably due to the fact that Nottingham's famous sports venues such as Trent Bridget Cricket Ground, the National Watersports Centre and the National Ice Centre.
More recently at grassroots level Nottingham was named as the UK's first City of Football, with a huge emphasis on increasing participation in the game. Famous football teams including Nottingham Forest and Notts County which both offer grounds for hire and Nottingham soccer schools, particularly the Nottingham Forest Sports Zone. In Nottingham has over 200 sports venues with more than 1,000 facilities for hire.
Activities in Nottingham range from football, to ice skating to tennis. If you want to play sport Nottingham is not short of options. As UK's City of Football there is a huge emphasis on promoting the game at a local level in the many football pitches in Nottingham, whether in schools or at the University of Nottingham's sports grounds. The Nottingham Forest Sports Zone in particular has two artificial football pitches for hire which are ideal for 11 a side football and 5 a side football. There are various football leagues available, coaching opportunities and even a multi-use hall for fitness classes such as zumba and yoga.
