Overview
Charlton Lido is situated in East London and has a 50m Olympic-size heated outdoor pool, one of the only olympic sized swimming pools in London. The Charlton outdoor swimming pool was closed for two years for renovations and as a result is now in excellent condition and open from May until the end of September.
As a result of the refurbishment, not only have the Charlton lido changing rooms and lockers been much improved, the outdoor pool is now also heated making it a touch more pleasant. Let's face it, Britain rarely basks in heat but when it does get hot the Charlton swimming pool is perhaps the best lido in London.
Phase two of the Charlton lido refurbishment is due to commence in Autumn 2012 and will involve upgrading the facility to provide health & fitness provision and a new caf�. The facility will be closed during this time and will re-open in Easter 2013.
In general it is recommended that the lido tickets are purchased in advance via the GLL site, although you can turn up and pay at the Charlton outdoor swimming pool. Parking is available for up to 25 cars, with spaces on surrounding streets at a premium so taking a bus might be easier (numbers 89 and 178).
